Don't ask don't tell has to be the dumbest policy ever enacted in the history of the United States...and believe me, there have been many. Gay men and women are willing to put their lives on the line in defense of this country and the values it stands for, such as... freedom, democracy and human rights for all. Yet they themselves are the victims of discrimination within the very ranks that they serve and if a gay recruit should dare confess his or her sexuality, they are immediately discharged from the service, no matter what their rank or duties. It seems a little hard to believe that the brave men and women who serve on the front lines of Afghanistan and Iraq and face suicide bombers and insurgents every day would be afraid of a little 'ole homo, doesn't it? I've always heard about the strong bond that exist within the military and the "brotherhood" that profess such promises as "be all that you can be" and "no man left behind"....you'd think that the same commitment & loyalty would be shown to it's gay brethren who serve and fight along side them. After all, if every enlisted man and woman, gay or straight, protested the policy and refused to enlist or serve until the policy was changed or over turned, we would see results, quick....but if we don't, I suggest we use this "stupid" policy as our new exit strategy in the middle east. Everyone comes out of the closet and goes home!
